Welcome to Prelude to a Cure, a non-profit organization dedicated to cancer research, one note at a time. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast, lung, colon and gynecological cancers are the top four cancers. With the help of many talented musicians, we will raise funds to research new and successful treatments to eradicate cancer from our world. We are always looking for up and coming musicians to volunteer. You will find that in volunteering, there is happiness and strength.
In 2011, more than 222,000 persons in the United States will be diagnosed with lung cancer. With an estimated 157,000 deaths annually, lung carcinoma is the leading cause of mortality from cancer in America in both men and women. Nearly a century of research has failed to discover a cure for patients whose tumors cannot be completely removed. Many additional patients succumb from metastatic spread following surgery. While prevention strategies have the potential to reduce the burden of this illness for future generations, they cannot stem the epidemic of lung cancer that will continue for at least the next two decades because of prior exposure to cigarettes. The majority of patients with lung cancer today have heeded health advice and either stopped smoking or never smoked. Chemopreventive agents have not worked, and in fact, have actually worsened lung cancer risk in some individuals.
